Little Bouctouche River Algae Pollution: And to think we swam in this! This photograph, circa 1950, was taken on the Little Bouctouche River shoreline in the days when the river was clogged with algal blooms resulting from cow manure pollution. Note the shore completely covered with slimy, green algae. People became outraged. Pressure was applied. It took years to fight for our basic rights. Action was taken. Laws were passed. This despicable situation no longer happens now that laws prevent cattle manure from polluting the river. It shows what can be done to protect our environment when people care enough to do something about it.
